History

The Maywood Tennis Club - founded in 1973 by local businessmen, Al Subin, Moe Stein and Dick May - has a successful history of great service and great tennis. Since the early seventies numerous tennis and celebrity athletes have participated in activities organized by the club. Many instructional and social programs were also developed at this time. Whereas many indoor clubs did not survive the post tennis boom of the eighties, Maywood Tennis club continued to improve and prosper.

In the late eighties the ownership switched to Larry May, the son of Dick May as President of the company, Mike Goldstein, Bill Kurtzer and Ken Manning. However, the attention to members, details and maintaining the spacious well lit seven indoor courts remained a priority. This centrally located club also became an active part of this North Jersey community.

The current owners, Larry May, Mike Goldstein, Bill Kurtzer and Marv Benzing are once again raising the standards of tennis service clubs. Managing Partner & USPTA Master Professional, Marv Benzing, was originally brought in as a teaching professional by Frank Brennan Sr. Mr. Brennan also had another success story as the coach of Billie Jean King. Maywood Tennis Club has many other success stories including, USPTA Eastern Club of the Year, cutting edge social and instructional programs, friendly and active members and a well stocked pro shop. The club also provides many unique membership opportunities to play and learn tennis, the sport of a lifetime.
